Overview
Hemovida distributes daily to its Transfusion Medicine Services present in its clients (CUF Hospitals, LUZ SAUDE, LUSIADAS, FUNDAÇÃO GULBENKIAN CIENCIA…), in order to ensure that blood components are available for different situations.
With its own fleet, it collects the units at the IPST – Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transpalnatação, and distributes it daily to its services, with its own team, certified and dedicated to Transfusion Medicine services.

The Solution
We adapted to the operation the new range of Qualified Isothermal Bags – e-Kool Smart Bag, for which a monitoring system, i-Thermal, was developed.
It has an integrated temperature sensor that guarantees the recording of temperatures during platform operation in order to guarantee the history of all shipments.
This ensures the full traceability of each shipment, linking the product (blood), the destination, the vehicle, the person in charge, the bag, the sensor, and all the information that is relevant to the HEMOVIDA process. At the end of the expedition it provides a report with all the information that is available on the platform for later consultation.
All this is done without the need to open the bag, using Bluetooth technology, which allows continuous monitoring using a smartphone, PDA or other picking equipment.

The Results
With the implementation of this solution, all traceability of the temperature and respective history of shipments was ensured. Temperature at product reception and at delivery, email alerts, platform history, shipping statistics…and a whole set of information in compliance with the sector’s legislation.
All of this was implemented using the same collection and traceability principles that Hemovida was already using.

The Challenge
To automatically monitor the temperature of all shipments, with as little human intervention as possible, guaranteeing full traceability at any time and highlighting alarms, if any would occur.
